What is plastic surgery; a surgery that is performed for a surgical correction or to help with the restoration of some form or functioning in the body. The word plastic indicates that this surgery involves the molding and reshaping of tissues but however has no connection with using plastic during the surgery.

However plastic surgery is not synonymous with cosmetic surgery.  Cosmetic surgery is performed only with the intention of improving the external appearance of a person who is actually healthy and has no deformities or functions to rectify.  Plastic surgery is a sub-specialty surgery that is performed to enhance one’s external appearance while rectifying a body form or function.
